As a global economy, India is home to one of the largest consumer bases in the world. India consumes a variety of goods and services whose worth runs into millions of rupees annually. Consumerism has been on a steady increase ever since independence. Therefore, realizing the rising trend of consumerism in a developing economy, the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 was passed to protect consumer rights and interests of the consumer. However, the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 is not the only act that governs consumption. There are other laws that protect various aspects of consumption, and they enshrine remedies and solutions for consumer disputes and complaint redressals as well.
